When asked how they chose this space, our property partner (owner) answered:
“We’re always looking for a project, not a recently renovated space. We’re also drawn to mezzanines and spaces with large volumes. It’s very tough to find something that hasn’t been touched in a long time in NYC. You just have to be patient and persistent, but the spaces are out there.”

The Vision
The owner’s goal was to create a space that feels both comfortable and inspired, reflecting the charm and elegance of a bygone era while embracing contemporary aesthetics.
“When we set out to renovate and design this property we loved the idea of a Parisian modern theme. We tried to keep it minimal, modern and light with a touch of old world class. When people walk in, we want them to feel invited in, but surprised at the reveal of the long hall into a large living space.“
The upstairs master bedroom overviews the 42-foot living space, including a modular couch and the original antique gilded mirror.
Where does the name Casa Strand come from?
The property’s history is evident in design highlights like the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that once belonged to the previous owner, a rare book collector at the iconic Strand bookstore. The framed newspaper clippings from 1894 found in the floorboards, the gilded mirrors and a refinished chess table left by the previous owner, add to the space’s character, blending historical elements with modern design that inspired the name for this outstanding Casa.
The bookshelf, an original feature of the space, sits right under the double-height barrel-vaulted ceiling, in this 42-feet living space.
Unique Features
As for their favorite areas, the owner shared: “The barrel-vaulted ceilings are easily my favorite. They were covered in popcorn stucco when we purchased the apartment and were stained yellow from all the indoor smoking that had been done. We scraped it all off and revealed a beautiful industrial raw finish. I decided it would be perfect to keep as it is and just seal it. Then we lit it accordingly and now we’re obsessed.”

One of the focal points in the expansive living space is an overhead art piece light fixture called the “floss coordinates,” composed of five different chandeliers woven into a cone shape.
